The Solution

You are here: Home / The Solution

The Our Lives programmatic approach is currently being utilized in six Centers for Independent Living located across the United States. Working collaboratively, the six CILs, in concert with Portland State University project staff, are placing primary emphasis in this work on identifying the most effective and impactful means by which the program content can make the most difference in helping individuals who experience a disability to be as safe and secure in their day-to-day lives as they can possibly be.

Our Lives is a multi-component program intended to help create safer lives for people with a disability or health conditions that affect their day-to-day lives.

Currently, trained advocates at Centers for Independent Living (CILs), which are community-based disability services organization, are available to support CIL consumers who want to go through the Our Lives Program. While engaging in Our Lives activities, CIL consumers will identify areas of abuse they may be experiencing and create a safety plan and action steps for addressing the abuse.
