Service Center for Independent Life

Service Center for Independent Life (SCIL), was incorporated in 1980 by a group of Claremont residents with disabilities along with their families and friends. These pioneers served as the indestructible foundation that saw the agency grow to a fully certified Independent Living Center (ILC) by the State Department of Rehabilitation in 1992. Today, the agency represents more than 150,000 individuals with disabilities in 22 cities and unincorporated areas within Los Angeles County. SCIL was named a Center of Excellence two years ago by the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers. The Our Lives program will be integrated in our day to day consumer services. This program will help our staff to open their eyes to be able to help identify abuse in our consumers lives and to be able to help them to identify and to be able to give information and resources to be able to end the abuse that they have been subject to.
